Beyond the Three R's to Multimodal Instruction

My Master degree study focused on Media Ecology and the relationship between how students learn, based upon their preferred style, through different media - from print to interactive multimedia.

From this study, I started to wonder why instruction changes as students progress through school. In elementary school, rooms are full of images, students sing to learn, and they are in constant motion. This style of learning changes as students progress through middle and high school.  Then there is the "college lecture" style.

What would happen if learning remained multimodal - with rich imagery, audio and interactive assignments? Would students benefit?
